The Four C’s of Selecting the Right Place To Live In Marin County

I’ve been writing about the Four C’s of selecting where to buy a home a home in Marin County.

1. Cost

2. Commute

3. Climate

4. Community

This  last installment is about community.

There’s a lot written about community these days, especially as it pertains to online communities. But what about the place where you live, the people you see every day, that community?

Marin County has lots of different communities that you can be a part of. There are tremendous neighborhood communities - Christmas Tree Hill in Corte Madera, Sycamore Park in Mill Valley, Hillview in Larkspur, Kentfield Gardens. Each one is like it’s own little town, with old timers, newcomers, and usually, lots of kids running around.

It’s not limited to children though. There are some excellent assisted living facilities for seniors, like the Tamalpais, or Villa Marin. In fact, the demand for these types of facilities seems to be growing, and many towns, like Larkspur, have indicated an interest in building more senior care facilities.

On a larger level, the towns themselves are unique communities. We live in Corte Madera, a town whose General Plan states that one of it’s  goals is to “maintain the small town character of Corte Madera.”  And it feels like a small town - as my daughter once said, “Don’t ever flip anybody off when you’re driving, because they probably know you.”

Take some time to understand the community, but most importantly, BE A PART OF IT. Contribute your time and energy to making the community better. Volunteer at the school. Join the Lions Club, or the Rotary. Become a Planning Commisisioner, or join Parks and Recreation. We believe strongly in volunteering - see our website for some of the organizations that we contribute time to.

The community you choose to live in will have a very large impact on you. Take the time to make sure that you also have an impact on it.
